Listen and understand increasingly complex conversations; obtain
information from spoken passages, identify cues that affect meaning in
communication--both verbal cues and non-verbal cues; transcribe passages;
comprehend authentic spoken materials (songs, movies, lectures, etc.); follow
instructions; and recognize the purpose and motivation of speakers.

Have an overall comprehension of short expository and narrative
selections; determine the main idea, the cause and effect, and probable outcomes of reading
selections; and summarize ideas from a text. Read
and interpret authentic materials (e.g., selected short stories, poetry and other literary works, articles, personal correspondence, and simple
technical material).

| Writing |
Narrate and describe with detail
in present, past and future time in writing. Compose and present stories, poems,
and skits. Compose messages,
announcements, notes, advertisements, postcards, or simple letters beyond
personal experiences. Explain a simple process, incorporating instructions.
Summarize and interpret information from authentic material.

| Speaking |
Present dialogues and scripts, respond to direct questions about simple
topics, converse with others students during classroom activities, converse with
other students in front of the class, and perform other dramatic activities.
Ask and answer open-ended questions on
a wide range of topics. Express
preferences, feelings, emotions, and opinions giving supporting details.
Demonstrate evidence of self-correction in communication with others.

To do the above you will need to continue building both vocabulary and
grammatical skills in Spanish and thus we will focus on the following general

Because
the objective of this class is for you to be to a productive user of Spanish,
Spanish will be the language of this classroom.
Any frustration you feel about this is part of the learning process so do
your best to use Spanish in this class and your frustration will decrease over
time.
